Today we talk about Finding My Supergrrl, a book by Chené Tuck published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author, Chené Tuck, to get to know her better, what particular moment of her life led her to the writing of her autobiographical book Finding My Supergrrl, as well as how she describes her writing style.
- Is there a particular moment in your life that led you to the writing of your book? What was that?
I have always had the desire to connect with people on a deeper level since I was a young girl. It started through music where I used to re-write song lyrics to popular songs. When I got a bit older and I discovered my true love for reading, this led me to open a blog so that I could find a community to talk books with as I didn’t have any friends that had an interest in reading. It started out as only book reviews but soon I was writing posts that I had labelled ‘Topics of light’ where I shared about motivational things I had read. Writing these topics and journaling soon became a good outlet for me when my marriage at the time was overwhelming. During this time I read a few books that helped me feel like I was not alone or the only one going through this or had gone through all the emotions I felt. One day I came across an email with a subject line ‘Ever wanted to write a book?’ This was the moment I decided that I needed to write my journey so that I could help others through and show them that there is always hope for a better life.
- What characteristics your audience should have to appreciate your book?
This book is written for anyone that needs a little bit of hope and courage to take a step and change their life or circumstance. I wrote it for the women who might feel lost and broken down during or after a serious traumatic event or relationship. It is also for anyone that appreciates reading about the journey of love, independence, adventure, and self-discovery while rebuilding a better life.
- What messages did you want to convey with your book?
My main message is that you are not alone in your struggle. There is always hope and reason to keep going, carry on and make the change, no matter how scary it can seem. You are not your past or your current circumstance and there is a better life waiting for you. Perceived failure is a simple setback or life redirecting you. You are stronger than you think. You are worthy of all the good things life has to offer if you open yourself to accepting them. We are all fighting struggles that the world cannot see. Shine your light, listen to your heart and stay true to who you are, even when it is the more challenging road to take.
- How would you describe your writing style?
The only way I could get my message and story across was to imagine myself sitting across from a friend, sipping on a cup of coffee and having a conversation. The way I wrote this book is the way I think and the way I speak. I wanted my style to be simple, relatable and vulnerable with the reader. It would be like catching up with an old friend.
- Are you working on a new writing project?
Yes, I do! I have three projects in the works. The first one is redesigning a reading journal that I designed and launched in 2024. I have found a few ways to improve the experience for readers and to make it more user-friendly. The second project I am working on is a smaller non-fiction book. It is a book dedicated to my daughter, like a type of wisdom toolkit for life. It is a simple read and easy to digest with short chapters and easy to reference chapters. And the third project I am working is finishing a fantasy fiction novel I started in 2017. I completed NaNoWriMo in 2022 which helped me complete approximately 70% of the book. The first scene in the book is actually inspired from a moment I had in my travel memoir when I was sitting in a restaurant in the middle of my backpack trip across Thailand combined with a dream I had a few years ago.
