Today we talk about THE FIGHTER OF RESILIENCE, a book by Carli Botha published with our Publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author, Carli Botha, to get to know her better, where she found the inspiration to write her book THE FIGHTER OF RESILIENCE, as well as how she describes her writing style.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- Where did you find the inspiration to write this book?
Cassius became my boxing coach in 2013, and as I got to know him, I was deeply moved by his incredible character; A humble man, despite having achieved the best boxing record of any South African and one of the most impressive records in global boxing history. He is a six-time world champion across three weight categories and has won and defended world titles more than 20 times.Yet, despite these remarkable achievements, he never received the recognition he truly deserves. This book was born out of a desire to provide a platform to honour his greatness. Cassius’s journey was not easy. He came from an underprivileged background, and while his accomplishments in the ring are extraordinary, what he has overcome outside the ring is even more powerful. His resilience through countless trials and tribulations left a lasting impression on me. God pressed it on my heart to share his story with the world, not only as a celebration of his legacy but as a testimony of faith and perseverance.
- What are the crucial themes of your work?
The central theme of this book is unwavering faith in God, especially during life’s most difficult challenges. It encourages choosing positive outlets, like boxing or any other sport, to process frustration and hardship, rather than turning to destructive coping mechanisms that can be soul destroying. Another key message is the value of perseverance, discipline, and hard work. These qualities can help you become the best version of yourself, whether in sport, work, or any area where you commit your heart and mind. The book also touches on the importance of mental strength: not allowing negative thoughts to take hold, as they can cloud your performance and behaviour. Finally, the story highlights that your background does not define your future. Rising above hardship is a choice. This story is proof that greatness is possible when you choose to believe and persist.
- What would you like to hear from your readers about this work?
I would love to hear that readers felt inspired, that the book reminded them that, no matter their circumstances, they can rise above it and become the best version of themselves. I also hope readers take away the importance of humility, to always remain grounded, no matter what you accomplish, and to treat everyone with respect, regardless of their background, race, or status. And above all, to remain faithful to God. Finally, I hope this book challenges readers not to limit themselves. This is the first book I’ve ever written. I come from a corporate background in accounting and law, and my only writing experience until now has been academic. I have no formal literary training, but I was deeply moved by a story that I knew had to be told. Even when I doubted whether I had the ability to write it, I relied on faith and determination, and worked hard to bring the book to life. If something is on your heart, trust that with faith and hard work, you can do far more than you imagine.
- How do you describe your Writing style?
My writing style is honest and raw. I’ve used words to bring someone’s real-life experiences to the page, so that readers can step into his world and truly see the journey of a humble, faithful, and remarkable sportsman. There’s no pretence or fluff in the writing. It’s direct, heartfelt, and grounded in truth, with the aim of allowing readers to connect deeply with the person behind the achievements. Cassius, known as “Mr. Shy Guy” is not a man of many words, but he confided in me to tell his story in his manner. I had to carefully choose words and do research to turn facts into a compelling narrative. I’ve also tried not to “Bible bash” or be overly preachy, but rather to acknowledge God in a sincere and respectful way, as faith is central to this story. This book is ultimately a story of faith, of how God carries us through the trials of life and that we should not focus on earthly things, but on the promise of everlasting life for those who believe. I’ve aimed to reflect faith truthfully and gently throughout the narrative.
- Are you planning to write more books? Yes. Can you tell us something about it?
Yes, absolutely! I truly enjoyed the process of writing and bringing an incredible story which was hidden to life – and The Fighter of Resilience is just the beginning. I’m currently working on a children’s fiction book, inspired by the incredible imagination of children – especially my own. As a parent, I’ve been amazed by the stories children create and the way they see the world. This upcoming book has come to life through their eyes and the words of their imagination. It will also be educational in a subtle way, through onomatopoeia, nature and colours. Reading allows for creativity. It will inspire children to read. I believe education and creativity is an important foundation of a child. I also have a fiction book in the pipeline, though it’s still in the early stages. I’m excited about both projects and look forward to exploring new ways of storytelling through them.
