- What prompted you to the writing of your book of poetry?
I was moved to compose this novel through the leading of the Holy Spirit. Many of the poems and prose, were born in moments of prayer, worship, and quiet reflection—times when I felt God speaking to my heart in ways that were too powerful to keep to myself. Writing became an act of devotion and servitude, a way to respond to what the Lord was revealing to me. As I continued to write and meditate, I realized God was using poetry to heal me, to strengthen my faith, and to remind me of his presence in every season of my life. The more I wrote, the clearer it became that these words weren’t just for my own guidance, but a paintbrush on a canvass for others who might need the same hope, comfort, and reassurance that God had given me. Putting this symphony together was an intentional step of obedience and faith to Christ. I wanted to share the testimony of what God has done in my life and to offer a collection of poems and prose that reflect his love, grace, and faithfulness, through various human experiences, and vocal points. My prayer is that each poem points readers back to Christ and reminds them that God still speaks, still heals, and is always near, even in unchartered and choppy waters. Flute of the Holy Spirit is a book of psalms that is centred upon the heartfelt worship of Jesus Christ, where music is played through words, that seeks to glorify God by recounting his faithfulness and goodness throughout my life. I explore current politics, relationships, trauma, civil war, political and financial systems, love and failure, through testimony and human experience. I hold a microscope against injustice, inequity, depression, confusion, the destructive power of social media, and play a flute of hope, a flute of liberation, a flute of overcoming, a flute of righteousness against the trials and tribulations that come against humans in this world. Poetry became a way for me to respond to God’s voice, to capture His faithfulness, and to testify of His grace working in my life.
- What messages did you want to convey with your book?
Flute of the Holy Spirit carries several messages that I felt led to share. Each poem speaks from a place of faith, reflection, and lived human experiences, but together they point toward core central truths I believe the Lord impressed upon my heart. First, I wanted to convey the message of God’s presence, that He is near in every season, whether joy is abundant or when pain and failure is consuming us. Many of the poems remind readers that they are never walking alone, because God faithfully walks beside His children. Second, I wanted to unravel the power of healing and restoration. The poems explore moments of brokenness, but they also testify of the way Christ rebuilds, renews, and breathes life into the places we thought were finished. My goal was to show that no story is beyond God’s redemption. Third, I yearned to encourage a deeper sense of identity and value in Christ. In a world that often distorts who we are, confusion around identity, class, race, wealth disparities, I wanted these poems to speak truth—to remind readers that they are chosen, loved, forgiven, and created with purpose by God Himself. Finally, I wanted to share a message of hope. Not a surface-level hope, but the kind that is rooted in Jesus—the hope that sustains us when life becomes heavy, uncertain, or overwhelming. I wanted every page to whisper, ‘The Living God who created the Heavens and the Earth, is with us, and will never leave us, throughout every season of darkness that grips our throats”. Overall, this book is a testimony in poetic form, musical notes of spiritual truths that will reverberate far beyond my time. My prayer is that as readers journey through the pages, they feel God’s love calling them closer, comforting them, and reminding them of His unshakable faithfulness.
- What does poetry mean to you?
Poetry, to me, is more than an art form—it is a sacred spiritual vine where the deepest parts of my heart meet the presence of God. It’s a place of honesty, reflection, and communion. Poetry allows me to express truths, emotions, and spiritual insights that ordinary language sometimes cannot hold or fathom. It is a way for me to slow down, listen, and discern what God is doing within me and around me. Often, poetry feels like a conversation between my soul and the Holy Spirit—a gentle exchange where God reveals, heals, and strengthens. Through poetry, I find clarity in confusion, beauty in brokenness, and purpose in pain. Poetry is also a bridge. It connects people through shared experiences, reminding us that we’re not alone. It invites readers into moments of vulnerability, hope, and transformation. For me, it is worship, reflection, and testimony all woven into spiritual words of honesty. Ultimately, poetry is a gift from God—a way to capture the movements of His grace in my life and offer them back to others so they, too, might find encouragement, faith, and a renewed sense of God’s majestic power.
- How did it feel to see your book published?
Publishing the book felt like releasing something sacred offering my journey, my healing, and my testimony to the world in hopes that someone else might find comfort, strength, and encouragement through it.
- Are you working on a new writing project you can tell us about?
After completing my book of psalms, I felt a strong pull to continue writing—almost as if the journey wasn’t finished yet. I’m currently working on a new project that goes a little deeper into the emotional and spiritual themes that shaped my first book. This time, I’m exploring not just personal reflection, but the stories and experiences that connect us as human beings: healing, resilience, faith, and the quiet ways God speaks through everyday life. It’s still taking shape, but I can feel it growing into something that blends poetic musings with short reflections—words meant to comfort, challenge, and uplift. I’m joyful, and a little humbled, because it feels like God is trusting me with another message. I don’t know exactly where it will end up, but I do know it’s a project filled with heart, truth, and purpose.
