Today we talk about Finding Revenge, a book by Keira Keen published with our Publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author, Keira Keen, to get to know her better, what prompted her to the writing of her book Finding Revenge, as well as the resemblances she sees between her and the protagonist of her novel.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- What prompted you to the writing of your book?
This is a very tricky question. I always knew I wanted to write books; this book ultimately was the result of me writing down a bunch of ideas and letting it flow. When I read books, I always read the ending first, so I know what happens (I hate not knowing). Writing my own book, I started with the end of the book, then wrote the plot that inevitably led to that finale. The idea around Mafia’s just came from what I was interested in writing about at the time. I wanted to explore something so unreachable in the real world, and add a fictional twist with Gia’s healing abilities. I know my younger self would be so happy that I managed to finish a book! My partner really helped me to get started, and actually complete the book. I would always start a book, but never finish it, and I owe him a debt of gratitude for my book ever reaching completion.
- What would you like to hear from your readers?
As an author, what I would most like to hear from readers goes far beyond whether they simply “liked” the book. Of course, positive feedback is always encouraging, but the most meaningful responses are the ones that show the story lived in someone’s mind for a while. When I cry over a book, or giddishly smile at the pages, I know I’ll be thinking about that book much more than any other book I simply “liked”. I appreciate when readers share what themes or ideas they took away from the story. Every reader experiences a book differently, and it’s always interesting to hear the perspectives and interpretations that readers have. Constructive thoughts are also so valuable! Hearing what readers wish they had seen more of, or less of, will ultimately help me grow as a writer. It’s not about perfection – it’s about understanding how stories are experienced by the people who read them.
- What resemblances do you see between you and the protagonist of your novel?
Gia lives in a world far more dangerous than my own, but the emotions that drive her are very human. She carries the weight of expectation, family loyalty, and the pressure to be strong even when she feels uncertain. Those struggles are something I believe many people can relate to, including myself. I connect with Gia’s determination. She refuses to simply accept the world she was born into, even though it would be easier to follow the path laid out in front of her. Instead, she questions things, challenges old rivalries, and tries to build something different. That desire to change the narrative is something I deeply admire and wanted to explore through her character. I also relate to her inner conflict. On the surface, she is strong, confident and capable, but internally she wrestles with doubt, loyalty, and her own emotions. Writing Gia allowed me to explore those contradictions that people may feel – the balance between strength and vulnerability. In many ways, Gia became a reflection of the themes I care about most: courage, growth and the idea that we are not defined by where we came from.
- How did it feel to see your book published?
Getting my book published was one of the most exciting and emotional experiences of my life. Writing a book takes a great deal of time, patience, and dedication, so finally seeing my work published felt incredibly rewarding. For a long time, the story only existed in my imagination and on my computer screen. When it became a real book that other people could read, it felt almost surreal. There were many moments during the writing process when I questioned myself or wondered if the story would ever reach readers. Because of that, holding the finished book in my hands made me feel proud and grateful for the journey it took to get there. It represented not only the story itself but also all the effort, creativity, and persistence that went into bringing it to life. Publishing the book also made me feel excited to share my characters and world with others. As a writer, you spend so much time with your characters that they start to feel real, and the idea that readers can now meet them and connect with them is very special. It was both thrilling and a little nerve-wracking, but overall it was an unforgettable moment that made all the hard work worthwhile.
- Are you working on a new writing project you can tell us about?
Yes, I am currently working on a new project, and it’s something I’m really excited about. Writing never truly stops for me, and after publishing my previous book, I naturally started exploring new ideas and stories. This new project is still in development, so I can’t reveal too many details just yet, but I can say that it’s a story that I’m very passionate about. What I can share is that I’m continuing to explore themes that interest me, such as complex characters, emotional conflicts, and unexpected twists. I enjoy creating worlds and situations that challenge my characters and allow them to grow throughout the story. This new project will definitely include some of those elements. Right now, I’m focusing on developing the plot, shaping the characters, and making sure the story is as strong as possible before sharing more about it. Writing a book takes time, and I want to make sure the story is told in the best way it can be. I’m really looking forward to the moment when I can reveal more about it, and I hope readers will be just as excited about it as I am.
