Today we talk about …For They Don’t Know What They Are Doing. Qualifications Of Politicians Worldwide, a book by Goerdt Abel published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author Goerdt Abel to get to know him better, what prompted him to the writing of his book of …For They Don’t Know What They Are Doing. Qualifications Of Politicians Worldwide, as well as how he describes in 3 main key points the role of an efficient politician today.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- What prompted to the writing of your book?
As mentioned at the beginning of the book, a group of friends and I found ourselves discussing the political situation across the globe. We were struck by the fact that we all agreed on how negative the perception of politicians has become. It is a profession that, sadly, commands one of the lowest levels of respect and appreciation. This universal sentiment prompted me to delve deeper to understand why this is the case and, crucially, how it might be improved for the common good. Through this exploration, I hoped to share my insights and possible solutions with my readers.
- What would you like to hear from your readers?
I would greatly value feedback regarding whether my book has succeeded in clearly explaining these issues. Suggestions for further improvement are especially welcome, as they will help me refine my ideas and communication in future works.
- Could you briefly describe in 3 main key points what should be the role of an efficient politician today?
- A modern politician should possess a solid professional education in relevant areas. While political science is a natural foundation, there are many other suitable academic paths, such as law, economics, social sciences, or behavioural sciences, that can lead to a well-rounded understanding of the political landscape.
- It is important for a politician to have demonstrated leadership, whether in small groups or larger organisations. Proven leadership experience is vital for effectively guiding others and making sound decisions.
- Above all, a politician must exhibit positive human qualities, such as compassion, understanding, and empathy. Of these, empathy may be the single most important trait, as it fosters genuine connection and responsible decision-making.
- How did it feel to see your book published?
It is always a moment of great joy to be able to share one’s ideas with a wider audience. This book marks my fifth publication. My previous works include part of my doctoral thesis on long-range business planning, a book exploring my family’s ancestry, a booklet about our garden in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and a book examining the economic and political consequences of German unification.
- Are you working on a new writing project you can tell us about?
I am currently contemplating a second book that addresses the same phenomena discussed in my previous work. In particular, I would like to focus on how we can prevent unqualified and potentially dangerous politicians from coming to power in the first place.
Europe Books thanks the author Goerdt Abel once again for taking the time and answering our questions.
