Europe Books is proud to present: “POEMS FROM THE HEART OF A BROKEN MAN”, a book by Tommy Tucker

Today we talk about POEMS FROM THE HEART OF A BROKEN MAN, a book by Tommy Tucker published with our publishing house Europe Books.

Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author Tommy Tucker to get to know him better, if there was a particular moment in his life that led him to the writing of his book of POEMS FROM THE HEART OF A BROKEN MAN, as well as how he describes his writing style.

Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!

  • Is there a particular moment in your life that led you to the writing of your book of poems? What was that?

Yes. Writing became a way to survive after I hit rock bottom. In 2017, I fell from a ladder and broke my spine. It took five months to learn to walk again. During that time, my thirty-year marriage ended, and I lost nearly everything I had built. I was in pain, both physically and mentally, and I didn’t know how to move forward. That’s when I started writing again — not to be a poet, but to try and make sense of everything I was feeling. The words just came out, one after another, often in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep. Every poem came from a real moment, a real emotion. Writing became my therapy — a way to stop myself from giving up completely. That’s how this book began — from a man trying to heal through honesty, one poem at a time.

  • What characteristics should your audience have to appreciate your book?

Anyone who has known pain, heartbreak, or loneliness will understand this book. You don’t need to be a poet or a writer to connect with it — you just need to have lived, to have felt loss, or to have struggled to find your way again. My poems are simple, honest, and written straight from the heart. There’s no fancy language or hidden meaning — just truth, emotion, and experience. I believe people who read with empathy, who want to see life as it really is, will find comfort in my words. The book is for those who sit in silence at night thinking about where life went wrong, or for anyone who wants to know that no matter how dark things feel, they’re not alone. It’s a book for people who have been broken — and for those who still believe in hope.

  • What messages did you want to convey with your book?

The main message is that no matter how much you’ve lost, you can still find meaning. Life can be cruel and unfair, but it can also be beautiful in small, quiet ways. I want readers to see that pain doesn’t have to be the end of the story — it can be the start of understanding yourself. Every poem I write comes from truth, from memories that shaped me. I want people to know that it’s okay to cry, to hurt, to feel alone — but it’s also important to keep going. There’s strength in survival, even when you don’t feel strong. I hope my poems help others realise that being broken doesn’t mean you’re finished — it means you’re still here, still feeling, still fighting. There’s power in that.

  • How would you describe your writing style?

My writing style is simple, emotional, and completely honest. I don’t use big words or complicated ideas — I write how I speak and how I feel. Most of my poems are written in one sitting, often within ten minutes, because they come straight from the heart. I never plan what I’m going to say; I just write whatever my mind and emotions are holding at that moment. Every poem is a snapshot of truth — how I felt right then. Some are written at two or three in the morning, sitting by the canal where it’s quiet. Others come to me during the day when something on the TV or a song stirs a memory. My goal isn’t to impress anyone — it’s to be real. My style is about feeling, not perfection.

  • Are you working on a new writing project you can tell us about?

Yes, I’m always writing. I have over 1,300 poems saved on my computer and add new ones almost every day. I’m also continuing my life story, which already stands at 35,000 words, and I plan to expand it with new chapters that explain more of what I’ve been through and learned. Alongside that, I’m turning some of my poems into songs — many with emotional, heartfelt lyrics that tell real stories about love, loss, and hope. Writing has become my daily therapy and my purpose. I’m not sure where it will lead, but I’ll keep writing for as long as I can. My hope is that someone, somewhere, will read a line and realise they’re not alone — that’s enough for me.

I’d like to say a quiet thank you to my dad who I lost at the age of 20, who taught me the meaning of kindness and hard work. He was a gentle man who always looked after others, and I’ve carried his values with me through every challenge life has thrown my way. Though much of what I write comes from pain and loss, his example reminds me that there’s still good in this world and that strength doesn’t always come from shouting — sometimes it comes from just carrying on. Every poem I write is, in some way, a reflection of that lesson.
