Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author Cláudio Furtado to get to know him better, where and when he found the inspiration to write his autobiographical book Transcendental, as well as the sensations he felt by ‘reading’ his life on the pages of his book.

- Where and when did you find the inspiration to write your autobiographical book?
Although it does not literally recount my life story, in a certain way this book is indeed autobiographical, as it offers the reader reflections and spiritual practices that I myself undertook to deepen my spiritual perceptions. Over 30 years ago, I began my spiritual journey in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I took part in a confraternity, an initiatic school, and for more than two decades received spiritual instructions of an initiatic nature directly from my instructor. I had already published, through Europa Buch in Germany, a book that taught an initiatic method of spiritual self-realisation. That book was very specific, as it was aimed at an audience already engaged with esoteric subjects. In Brazil, I had published books of spiritual poetry (“Divagaísmo” and “O Despertar: Existência Integral”), which also helped readers reflect on themes related to spirituality, but as they were poetic in nature, they contained many symbolic elements, which made understanding difficult for those just beginning to study spiritual topics. I felt the need to write a book that would be accessible to all readers interested in subjects and practices related to spirituality. So I selected excerpts from certain initiatic writings I had been composing since 1993 (which had only been accessible to small groups to which I belonged) and adapted the language to make it accessible to all readers interested in spiritual themes. It was with this intention — to make spiritual themes accessible to all interested readers, whether beginners or experienced — that I wrote this book. Reflections and spiritual practices accessible to all: that is what readers will find in my book.
- What is the message you want to convey to your readers?
The main message is that all those who so wish may bring spirituality into their daily lives. The reflections and spiritual practices contained in this book lead the reader to penetrate deeply into their “here and now”. By living this “here and now” intensely, we live reality, we live our present, we work, study, relate to others, always focused on our current moment, for in truth it is only possible to live our present; our reality lies in our present and not in some other illusory moment or place. To live our present consciously is the key to having a life filled with spirituality; it is the key to living in tune with our divine essence.
- What significant life experiences find expression in your book?
The deepest experience that the reader may have in my book is the realisation that they can be happy and fully fulfilled by walking consciously with each step taken in their earthly existence, for to live consciously is to live our sacred, to live attuned to our divine essence, to live the wonders of existence in all its fullness and with profound conscious responsibility.
- What sensations did you feel by ‘reading’ your life on the pages of your book?
I realised that walking the path of spirituality makes us better beings for ourselves and for all those around us, for this is the true purpose of all that is divine, all that is sacred, all that is spiritual: to make us better beings not only for ourselves, but for all the beings of the magnificent universe that surrounds us.
- Are you working on a new writing project, you can tell us about?
I am currently working with a Brazilian friend on two new literary projects. One of these projects will be a book that will teach readers how to harmonise their entire lives through practices for harmonising the chakras, the subtle bodies, their spiritual elements, and through a powerful solarisation technique. The other project is an environmental education book aimed at children and young people, whose purpose is to encourage reading and raise awareness — through practical activities — of the importance of Ecology for the preservation of our beloved planet Earth. And in addition to these projects, I am also writing a book of reflections on the Covid-19 pandemic, which transformed our entire way of seeing the world. I intend to publish this book in 2030. It will be a book that will include illustrations to complement the text, which is why I am inviting a friend who is a visual artist to take part in this project.
