Today we talk about VOLUME 1 – THE AGELESS CHILD, a book by James W. R. WYCKELM published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author James W. R. WYCKELM to get to know him better, what prompted him to the writing of his book VOLUME 1 – THE AGELESS CHILD, as well as how he felt to see his book published.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- What prompted you to write your book?
The motivation to write this book came from a mix of personal experience, curiosity, and the desire to share something meaningful with others. I drew inspiration from my love of heroic fantasy and from exploring deeper themes such as power, morality, and identity. I set out to create my own world within a medieval fantasy setting. To achieve this, I presented two storylines in parallel: the personal journey of Wyckelm, the main character, unfolding in the present, and the broader history of the continent, which sheds light on the intrigues surrounding our hero.
- What characteristics should your audience have to appreciate your book?
My readers should be open to immersing themselves in a medieval world rich with magic, where darker forces create a grittier atmosphere. The book weaves in philosophical and existential reflections on power, leadership, and the consequences of choice. Those who enjoy stories that go beyond surface-level action and delve into human nature will find Wyckelm compelling. They won’t just be looking for action-packed scenes but also for intellectual depth. Attentive readers will notice clues pointing to a larger plot, one with serious consequences for the continent and its inhabitants. Wyckelm unfolds in a complex medieval fantasy world filled with political systems, religions, and diverse cultures. Readers should be prepared to engage with the setting, including its history, conflicts, and magic.
- What messages did you want to convey with your book?
The central theme is the exploration of power—how it’s gained, how it corrupts, and how it shapes both individuals and societies. I wanted to show that leadership is rarely a matter of simple “good” versus “evil,” but rather a web of compromises, personal sacrifices, and complex moral choices. Power always has consequences, and true leadership requires difficult decisions.I also wanted to explore how the echoes of past generations influence the choices of characters, the rise of empires, and the survival of kingdoms. Wyckelm shows how the past is never truly gone—it can haunt or inspire those who follow. The choices made by the characters may carry far-reaching consequences for generations to come. History is alive, and the legacies we leave behind shape the world for those who come after us. Another key theme is sacrifice—not only in giving something up for a greater cause, but also in how those sacrifices transform the characters on a deeply personal level. They are forced to confront their fears, flaws, and desires, and through this struggle they grow, often in unexpected ways. True change comes from within, and it often demands sacrifice. I also wanted to highlight the fragility of peace and how easily it can be undone. The balance between order and chaos is fragile, constantly threatened by forces that seek disruption. Peace is never guaranteed; it requires vigilance and resilience to preserve. Finally,in a world dominated by war, betrayal, and political intrigue, Wyckelm reminds readers of the importance of hope—even in the darkest times. Though the characters face despair, it is hope, perseverance, and belief in something greater than themselves that propel the story forward. I wanted to show that even in a world filled with uncertainty, our capacity for hope can change the course of history.
- How did it feel to see your book published?
Seeing my book published filled me with an immense sense of accomplishment. All the hard work had finally come to fruition, and now the story belongs to the world. It has been published in English, Spanish, and French, and I’m delighted to have received positive initial feedback, even if modest. It’s a mix of joy and curiosity—I can’t wait to see how others experience the journey I’ve created. I also feel a strong sense of responsibility toward my audience. Once published, the book is no longer just mine—it belongs to the readers. The characters, the story, and the themes are now shared with them, and I take pride in having the opportunity to leave even a small mark on the literary world.
- Are you working on a new writing project you can tell us about?
Yes—the second book is already in progress. I hope it will be available next year, featuring new and significant characters, revelations that deepen the mysteries, and our hero facing new adversities alongside his friends. I want to thank my readers for their trust, and I truly hope they are as excited for the next chapter as I am.
