Today we talk about Eden and Ethan Discover the Power of Color, a book by Debi Gueron published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author, Debi Gueron, to get to know her better, where she found the inspiration to write her book Eden and Ethan Discover the Power of Color, as well as how important illustrations are in a children’s book.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- Where did you find the inspiration to write a children’s book?
My inspiration came from watching how children see the world — their honesty, curiosity, and ability to find wonder in everyday things. I wanted to capture that magic and help them explore emotions like fear, joy, and courage in gentle, relatable ways. Many of my stories were sparked by small moments — a child’s question, a family memory, or even a pet’s funny behavior. I wanted to create stories that comfort, inspire, and encourage children to believe in themselves, while also offering parents an opportunity to connect with their children through shared reading moments.
- How important do you think illustrations are in a children’s book?
Illustrations are absolutely essential. For children, pictures are often their first language — they draw meaning, emotion, and story before they even read the words. A good illustration brings the story to life, adding warmth, humor, and understanding that words alone can’t convey. It helps children follow the plot, recognize emotions, and feel connected to the characters. The combination of words and pictures creates a magical world that invites children to imagine, dream, and engage deeply. In many ways, the illustrations are as important as the story itself — they make the book come alive in a child’s heart.
- What would you like to hear from your young readers?
I’d love to hear that my stories made them smile, think, or feel understood. When a child says, “That’s just like me!” or “I felt that way too,” it’s the most meaningful feedback. I want them to see themselves in the characters — brave, curious, sometimes unsure — and realize that it’s okay to feel all kinds of emotions. Hearing that a story sparked their imagination, helped them talk about feelings, or made them want to read more is the greatest reward. Every reader’s response, even a simple “I loved it,” reminds me why I write for children.
- What will parents understand through your stories?
Parents will see reflections of everyday childhood experiences — the small struggles, fears, and triumphs that shape growing up. My stories often remind adults how important patience, listening, and love are in helping children feel safe and confident. They might also rediscover the joy of seeing the world through a child’s eyes — simple things like friendship, kindness, and imagination. I hope my stories encourage parents to pause, share a moment of warmth, and talk about the themes together. Beyond entertainment, they’re gentle reminders of empathy, family connection, and the beauty of nurturing a child’s emotional world.
- Are you working on new writing projects that you can tell us about?
Yes, I’m always exploring new ideas! I’m currently developing a series of stories centered on courage and self-discovery — how children learn to face their fears, express themselves, and celebrate differences. One story follows a shy child learning to speak up, another explores friendship across unexpected differences. I’m also revisiting earlier stories to adapt them for slightly older readers, adding layers of humor and reflection. Each project aims to entertain while gently teaching life lessons. I find endless inspiration in watching children grow, question, and dream — and I want my next books to grow alongside them.
